Claude and Codex usage at a glance
A macOS menu bar app that shows how much of your 5-hour and weekly limits you have used and when they reset.
Main features
For everyday use the menu bar icons are enough. Open the detail window when you want a closer look.
Menu bar icons
Each limit has its own shape, and the color gets darker as usage goes up. The menu bar can show the percentage, the icon, or both, and the icon size is adjustable.
Pace view
The pace view in the detail window puts the time elapsed in the current period on the horizontal axis and the share of the limit used on the vertical axis, with one dot per limit. The dotted diagonal is an even rate. A dot above it means you are using the limit faster than time is passing; below it, you still have room. Weekly limits can be set to count weekdays only, and you can switch back to the ring view in Settings.
More features
-
All Claude apps
claude.ai, Claude Code, the desktop and mobile apps, and Cowork share the same limits, so the menu bar shows their combined usage.
-
Codex
Once you add a Codex account, usage from Codex CLI, the IDE extension and Codex web shows up next to Claude. If you don't add one, nothing Codex-related appears.
-
Usage alerts
You get a macOS notification when usage reaches a threshold you set, and another when a limit resets. The thresholds are adjustable.
-
Smart refresh
Refreshes often while usage is changing, then gradually slows down when nothing has changed for a while, to avoid unnecessary requests.
-
Multiple accounts
Sign in through your browser, including with Google, SSO or a passkey. You can add several Claude and Codex accounts, give them aliases and switch between them from the menu bar.
-
Seven languages
English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French and German. By default the app uses your system language.
Privacy
There is no sign-up and the developer doesn't run any servers, so your data isn't collected anywhere.
Network requests
The app only connects to the Claude and Codex APIs, GitHub (to check for updates) and codex-reset.com (Codex reset announcements, which you can turn off in Settings).
Credential storage
Session keys and tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in plain-text files. Usage data isn't cached to disk either.
App Sandbox
The app runs in the macOS sandbox. Apart from network access, it only opens a local port for the sign-in callback and uses the system services needed to install updates.
Open source
The source code is on GitHub under the MIT license if you want to check it yourself.
Download and install
Requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. Runs on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs.
Install
Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Usage4Claude into the Applications folder.
First launch
The app isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time and you need to allow it once. On macOS 15 or later, open the app, click Done, then click Open Anyway at the bottom of System Settings → Privacy & Security. On macOS 14 or earlier, Control-click the app and choose Open.
Sign in to Claude or Codex in your browser. When macOS asks for Keychain access, choose Always Allow.
Supports Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free accounts have no usage data to read. Later versions can be installed from inside the app.
